How to write an About page that appeals to your ideal clients

One of the first pages you create for your website is the About page. Don't be fooled into thinking they're old-school. About pages serve the important purpose of telling your customers who you are in the context of why you are the right person for the job. They help customers connect a face and a story to the person behind the website.

You don't need to be intimidated by the prospect of what to write either. Think of it as a reply to "What do you do?" when someone asks you that question at a party. Here are some guidelines:

  • Make the text sound like you, as if you were in a conversation with someone

  • Briefly describe how your experience or credentials support what your business offers using jargon-free language

  • Include a picture of yourself looking friendly and approachable

  • Include a few strong testimonials or recommendations from others (or add them later when you have them)

What about you? Are you ready to write your About page? Here are some more examples and ideas to inspire you.
